HELMAND: 2,000 poor families receive assistance to cope with winter

HELMAND - Local authorities of Helmand province distributed assistance to around two thousands needy families in the provincial capital Lashkar Gah yesterday, stated a press release issued by the Helmand Governor’s Office.

The assistance package included winter cloths, shawls, jackets, coats, shoes, blankets, socks, warm hats, tarpaulin and 1,000 Afghanis for each family.

The assistance was provided by the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) as part of their winterization programme and was distributed by the Helmand Deputy Governor, Masood Bakhtawar.

“Helmand Governor’s office always tries to provide services to the local population, in particular to poor and needy people,” said Mr. Bakhtawar while talking to the media during the distribution.

It is worth mentioning that similar assistance has been provided to poor and needy people on many occasions by the local Government.
