BAMYAN: New provincial governor appointed

BAMYAN - According to a newsletter from Secretariat of Minister’s Council, the President of Afghanistan, Hamid Karzai has appointed Mr Ghulam Ali Wahdat as the Governor of Bamyan province.

The newsletter describes that on the request of Independent Directorate for Local Governance, the President approved the appointment of Mr Wahdat as the Governor.

Mr Wahdat will succeed Habiba Sarabi who is running for the presidential election as the second vice president.

Ghulam Ali Wahdat was born in Yakawlang District of Bamyan province, graduated from Economics Faculty of Kabul University and joined police force.

Mr Wahdat was the Chief of Police in Bamyan in 2006, he has since been working on different positions with Ministry of Interior. Before his appointment as the Governor of Bamyan, he was working as the deputy Minister for Ministry of Interior affairs.

The current Chief of Police in Bamyan province Gen Razaq Elkhani is the brother of Mr Wahdat.
