URUZGAN: Major ANA base to be established

KANDAHAR - Afghan military officials said “a major military centre” is going to be established in the southern Uruzgan Province.

Officials said the base would include a training centre for military personnel and accommodation.

Currently, the fourth ANA (Afghan National Army) brigade is based in Uruzgan, where the security situation has relatively improved after it was included in the third tranche of security transition.

Although the province shares its borders with “relatively insecure” provinces, its security situation is assessed to be stable, according to officials from the central Government, who recently visited the province.

Currently, there are around 2,500 Australian and American forces stationed in the province.
