UNAMA meeting in Doha

KABUL - The Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Tadamichi Yamamoto, yesterday met with Mullah Baradar Akhund and the Taliban negotiating team in Doha. The meeting was part of a regular dialogue between the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and the Taliban on human rights, humanitarian assistance, and the peace process.

UNAMA remains concerned that civilian casualties remain at unacceptably high levels. UNAMA supports the position that only a negotiated peace agreement can end the immense suffering caused by the war in Afghanistan.

UNAMA encourages all parties to engage constructively in peace negotiations, with the aim of reducing violence and ultimately ending the conflict.
