UNAMA expresses condolences over attack on international and Afghan troops

KABUL - The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) expresses its sincere condolences and sympathies to the families and colleagues of international and Afghan troops killed and wounded in an incident near Kabul today.

According to initial reports, a number of International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) troops were shot dead or wounded by an attacker in an Afghan army uniform at a military academy, with an Afghan commander also reportedly wounded.

“International forces continue to perform a critical role in Afghanistan’s security and are providing critical training for the country's future and stability," said the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan and head of UNAMA, Ján Kubiš. "The attack on these servicemen is a tragedy – my deepest condolences and sympathies go out to the families and friends of the victims of today’s attack, be it international or Afghan.”
