KABUL - I am appalled to have learned of today’s suicide bomb attack at Metherlam Mosque in Laghman province which resulted in the death of Afghanistan’s deputy chief of intelligence along with several other Government officials and injuries to many other civilians.

It is indefensible that such an attack was carried out at a mosque during the holy month of Ramadan. The contrast between the vast majority of Afghans who yearn for peace during this holy month and those who conducted this attack could not be more stark.

I offer my sincere condolences to all those who have suffered as a result of today’s attack.
