UN Special Representative Ján Kubiš sends greetings for Eid-ul-Fitr

KABUL - On the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr, and on behalf of the United Nations in Afghanistan, I extend my greetings to all Afghans as they prepare to celebrate the end of the holy month of Ramadan.

Throughout Ramadan, the people of Afghanistan have been fasting, illustrating their commitment to shared religious and cultural values, and respecting this time for reflection, patience and tolerance.

However, the past 30 days have seen Afghans experience violence and suffering – I sincerely hope that that as families and friends around the country gather to celebrate this special occasion, that they can do so in an environment free of bloodshed, suicide attacks, explosions and hatred, and, instead, do so in a spirit of peace, goodwill and harmony.

I hope that this spirit of peace, goodwill and harmony at the heart of this religious occasion will also strengthen the national effort to find peace in Afghanistan.

On behalf of the United Nations in Afghanistan, I wish all Afghans Eid Mubarak.
