UN envoy Yamamoto at Security Council on the situation in Afghanistan
NEW YORK - The Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Tadamichi Yamamoto, today briefed the Security Council on the situation in Afghanistan.
Yamamoto highlighted key developments around peace, upcoming elections, human rights and other issues. The envoy, who is also head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reiterated the imperative for Afghan-led talks and a political solution to halt the conflict.
