NEW YORK - The Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan, Deborah Lyons, today briefed the Security Council on the situation in Afghanistan.

Lyons highlighted key developments around peace, human rights, the humanitarian situation and other pressing issues. The envoy, who is also head of the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) reiterated the imperative for intra-Afghan peace talks and a political solution to halt the conflict.
