UN coordinates natural disaster response plan in northeastern region

2 June 2011 – The United Nations Office for Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) facilitated a humanitarian regional coordination meeting this week in Kunduz on the response of the UN, the Government and its partners to a potential natural disaster – such as flooding - in the northeastern region.

During the meeting, attended by UN agencies and non-governmental organizations, the UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) said that two million Afghan returnees will be assessed in the next two months to make certain that their needs are being met.
