KABUL - I welcome the joint statement today by the Electoral Complaints Commission and Independent Election Commission. The statement confirms the thorough work of each independent commission in resolving electoral issues in a unified manner, in compliance with the Electoral Law and the Constitution of Afghanistan.

Dari - Pashto

The statement highlights the complexity of the results process and shows that both Afghan commissions remain committed to solving them transparently and in line with their legal authority.

I recognize that the adjudication of electoral disputes affecting the outcome of the elections must be completed before final results are certified.

I further recognize that it is the exclusive authority of the two Afghan electoral institutions to adjudicate these disputes, and to do so freely, without interference from any state organ or foreign interest.

In this regard, I trust that the Attorney-General’s Office will defer electoral decisions to electoral authorities while not relinquishing its investigative powers in matters not within the exclusive jurisdiction of the independent electoral bodies.

It is essential that this electoral process come to an end without further delay. I am confident that the IEC and ECC are pursuing an expeditious and complete path towards finalization of results and that this path is in accordance with the Constitution and in the spirit of national unity.
