Public signs increase awareness of women’s rights in Kunduz

27 April 2011 – Metal signs with legal and religious quotes in support of women’s rights are being placed around the northern province of Kunduz to raise public awareness about women’s issues.

 

The first two  of six signs were inaugurated on Tuesday in a park in Kunduz city. The sign boards will be installed in crowded locations of the city and governmental entities to raise public awareness on EVAW Law and women rights.

“In collaboration with UNAMA, we provided six metallic boards with the content of Kuran verses, saying from the Prophet and the articles of Elimination of Violence against Women Law,” said the head of Kunduz Women Affairs Department, Nadera Geyah.

Kunduz Department of Women Affairs with the support of UNAMA inaugurated the first public awareness metallic boards on women rights through an official ceremony in Kunduz city on Tuesday.

“On one hand, the installation of such public awareness boards add to the beauty of city, and on the other, it raises citizens’ awareness of women’s rights,” said the Kunduz head of the Education Department, Mohammad Zahir Nazam.
