PAKTIKA: Afghan forces assume security responsibility of provincial capital

PAKTIKA - Afghan forces took charge of security affairs of Sharan, the capital of Paktika province, and six other regions as part of security transition from foreign troops.

Speaking to the handover ceremony, attended by Governor Muhibullah Samim, deputy defense minister, ISAF representatives, local officials and tribal elders, Samim expressed satisfaction with Afghan forces taking charge of the provincial capital and other parts, adding they were ready to shoulder the responsibility for the entire province.

He claimed problems with regard to good governance and others were addressed to a great extent in Paktika, where security had improved compared to previous years and asked the central Government to provide security forces in the border province with advanced and heavy weaponry.

Deputy Defence Minister Gen Inayatullah Nazari promised taking realistic steps to ensure heavy and sophisticated weapons were delivered to local forces in the province.

An ISAF commander said foreign troops would continue to cooperate with the people of Paktika in diverse fields of life.
