Nangarhar Provincial Council gets first public information centre

24 April 2011 – The Eastern Regional Office of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) today donated electronic equipment and furniture to a newly established public information centre at the Nangarhar Provincial Council.

Council Chair Haji Jamal Qadeer and UNAMA Head of the regional office, Nahid Abuakar, jointly opened the centre, which will serve as the venue of information sharing and training for local officials and journalists, among others.
Thanking UNAMA for the support, Haji Qadeer said he looks forward to future support from the Organization. UNAMA’s Abuakar said the support will also be extended to other provinces of the region.

Mirwais Rahimi, press officer at the Nangarhar Provincial Council, said the centre will help them immensely in reducing the hassles involved in getting the Council magazine out.

“Until now, we have been designing our magazine in the city, but now onwards, we can do it here,” said Rahimi. The Council has been publishing a monthly magazine called Wolesi Hindara or The Mirror of the People.
