Minister of Energy and Water visits northeastern provinces

KUNDUZ - Mohammad Ismail, the Minister of Energy and Water, led a delegation of his ministry and visited Kunduz and Takhar provinces on Saturday. In Kunduz, he inaugurated the Kunduz-Khanabad irrigation project and a new building of the Amu River Basin. 

The construction of the 20-room Amu River Basin building cost US$ 597,000, funded by the European Union.

With its two canals, the Kunduz-Khanabad irrigation project – also funded by the European Union with the total cost of US$ 16 million, irrigates 35,000 hectares of land.

The Ministry of Energy and Water delegation also visited the 220 KV Dasht-i-Abdan sub-station and Imam Sahib district sub-station as well.

Minister of Energy and Water and his accompanying delegation visited Taloqan, the provincial capital of Takhar, and met the provincial governor and other governmental officials.

Minister Ismail briefed the provincial officials on quantity and quality of the Ministry of Energy and Water projects in Takhar and ensured them of Taloqan city electricity extension and illumination of the city in the next future.

According to the Minster of Energy and Water, 90 per cent of Taloqan electricity sub-station and suburban electricity network have been completed and within two months. Taloqan residents will benefit from the Tajikistan-imported electricity power through Sher Khan Border of Kunduz.
