KUNDUZ: UNAMA trains young journalists on radio news production, presentation

KUNDUZ - UNAMA trained eight young journalists in Afghanistan’s northeastern region of Kunduz for two days, 19-20 November, on radio news reporting, production and news presentation.

UNAMA radio producer Setyo Budi, who trained the journalists from state-run and independent radio and television stations, said the training covered the topics such as news story production, interviews, PSA (Public Service Announcement) production, audio editing, talk show and presentation. These topics derive from the participants’ needs, said Mr. Budi.

“Today I learned a lot which will help me perform my job as a journalist better,” said Jamal Yaqoubi, a reporter of Radio Cheragh. “I now understand the difference between straight and feature news stories.”

Obaidullah Majeedi, another participant who works as a correspondent for radio Bayan Shamal believes that the training will help new journalists to do their work more professionally.

The training covers theory and practice. “It was participant-driven training where participants were required to be active and participate in discussions and training exercises which were done individually and in groups,” said Mr. Budi.

Freshta Shewa, a director of Radio Khawar, said he learned “a number of key journalistic matters” in the training. “We want to be professional and successful journalists,” said Mr. Shewa.

As part of capacity building activities for journalists in northeastern provinces, UNAMA has also planned to conduct a photojournalism training soon.
