KUNDUZ: Security transition process completed

KUNDUZ - With the handover of security responsibility of Khanabad district of the north-eastern Kunduz province from international military forces to the Afghan forces yesterday, the security transition process has completed in the province.

Security responsibility of all seven districts of Kunduz province, including its capital with the same name, is now under the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF).

The security transition of the strategic province was completed during the fourth phase of the process. The Government of Afghanistan is going to announce the fifth and the final phase of security transition soon.

Speaking at a ceremony organized to mark the completion of security transition, the Deputy Provincial Governor, Hamdullah Danushi, said since the transition process started in Kunduz, “security situation has improved in the province.”

“Although our security forces have the ability to fight the enemies, they need to be provided with more military equipment and modern weapons,” said Mr. Danushi.

Gen. Khalil Andarabi, the Kunduz Chief of Police, said the ANSF is capable of defending the country.

According to Gen. Andarabi, all recent security operations in Khanabad were conducted by the ANSF without any involvement of the international forces.

The Governor of Khanabad district, Hayatullah Amiri, said the security situation is improving in the district leading to less number of local problems.
