Kunduz Governor's visit focuses on gender, human rights

3 February 2011 – On his first official visit to UNAMA Kunduz, provincial governor Muhammad Anwar Jegdalek today told local and UN officials in the northern region that he plans to recruit a provincial advisor for legal, gender and human rights issues.

The governor, who in the past has headed the country's National Olympic Committee, also sought UNAMA's support in developing a new provincial development plan.

“We appreciate your call for national unity and for bringing the Kunduz ethnicities together to work for peace, stability and development,” said Gabriela Iribarne, head of UNAMA's Kunduz office.

She added that UNAMA Kunduz supports the Afghan Peace and Reintegration Programmes at the provincial and regional levels.
