KUNDUZ: Call for peace through poetry

KUNDUZ - The Kunduz Provincial Peace Committee, in collaboration with the United Nations, organized a poetry event under the title “Peace and National Unity Evening Poetry” at Kunduz University yesterday.

Around 200 Government officials, members of the Kunduz Provincial Peace Committee and the Provincial Council, community elders, university lecturers and students, poets, cultural scholars, some former Taliban fighters, and representatives of UNAMA and the UN Development Programme (UNDP) attended the event.

The speakers highlighted the importance of peace from the prospective of Islam, its need in the Afghan community, role of youth, culture and tradition in building a peaceful society, condemning any form of violence and war. They also called the anti-Government elements to join the peace process and participate in the nation building.

Over 30 poets presented their Dari, Pashto and Uzbek poems on peace and national unity. Three winners from each language category were awarded.

The High Peace had designated 20-25 September as the peace and unity week in Afghanistan, coinciding with the International Peace Day.
