KHOST: Convoy of Government officials, elders and civil society leaders spread peace messages

PAKTYA - A peace convoy involving senior Government officials, tribal elders, youth, civil society activists and journalists covered 55 kilometres and reached Zazai Maidan district of Khost province yesterday. The objective was to spread the message of peace among the youth.

The convoy had started from the provincial Governor’s office. Expressing his pleasure over the success of the move, the Governor said they had conveyed peace messages to those involved in the insurgency.

He said similar peace convoys would travel to other districts as well. "Another purpose of the trip is to assure residents of the Government’s support."

Mir Zaman Sabari, a tribal elder from Sabari district, said the move reflected improved security in the province. Khost residents never thought such a large number of officials and tribal elders would visit a faraway district like Zazai Maidan.

Analyst Ghazi Khan hoped such initiatives would boost the people’s morale on the one hand and reduce the gap between the Government and the public on the other.
