KANDAHAR: Minister of Mines to invite investors to conduct mine extractions in Kandahar

KANDAHAR - Minister of Mine and Industries, Wahidullah Shahrani said during his visit to Kandahar that his office will try to attract investors to conduct mine and coal extraction in Kandahar province.

“There are reserves of several mines present in different parts of Kandahar including cement, coal and fluoride. We will start extraction of these mines and attract investors to invest in the mine sector in Kandahar,” Shahrani said in a meeting with Kandahar Governor.

I have already established contacts with some investors to conduct coal and marble extraction in Kandahar, Shahrani added.

“The investment in the coal sector will also help Kandahar to generate electricity. Moreover, it will help Afghanistan, in particular Kandahar, to rely less on Pakistan and Iran in order to import cement,” Shahrani further said.

Kandahar Governor, while briefing the Minister about security situation, has said that security wise the situation is now conducive for investment in Kandahar, adding that Kandahar is rich in mines and also has technical expertise which can help the Ministry in their work in Kandahar.

He requested the Minister to help Kandahar in mine extraction which will provide job opportunities to the local population and will help strengthen the local economy as well as contribute to the betterment of the security situation.
