KANDAHAR: 40 prisoners released

KANDAHAR - Following an assessment made by Judiciary and Justice Department officials from Kabul, 40 prisoners, including two women, were released from Kandahar main prison recently.

According to the head of the visiting delegation, they were assigned by the Attorney-General to review all cases and complaints of the prisoners in Kandahar. The assessment delegation also found that some prisoners should have been released earlier as they finished their term of imprisonment, but due to administrative problems, the release was delayed.

Abdul Salam Azami, the chief of Judiciary and Justice Department of Afghanistan, instructed Kandahar court judges to visit the prison on daily basis to make sure that no prisoner is deprived of their rights and share the information with the media.
