JAWZJAN: The province’s first female district governor assumes office

JAWZJAN - For the first time in Jawzjan’s history, a woman has been appointed as the district governor.

Sayra Shekib was appointed the governor of Khojadokoh district and was officially introduced to the district authorities last week, succeeding former governor Abdul Razzaq Qaderi.

A schoolteacher by background, Ms. Shekib has worked in different capacities Junbesh party’s Provincial Council chairwoman and a university lecturer.

Despite being the hometown of Junbesh leader Gen Abdul Rashid Dostum and located 30 kilometers from Jawzjan’s capital, Khojadokoh has been one of the slowest growing districts.

According to district authorities, there are 17 schools in the entire district – three high schools for boys, one for girls, four secondary and nine elementary schools. At the moment, only eight schools have their own building. The rest are open air schools.
