HERAT - Today, for the fourth day in a row, Etafaq-i-Islam daily newspaper in Herat Province could not be published. The reason for suspension of publication has been financial issues, according to the newspaper and the provincial Department of Information and Culture.

The Director of Herat Information and Culture Department, Ehsan Sarwaryar has assured that the paper will resume its publication by the end of this week. Etafaq-e-Islam is one of the first newspapers in Afghanistan that started its publication around 100 years ago.

Many media houses in Herat have started to feel the pinch of the global financial slowdown.
