HERAT - Below is a summary of the news from the province.

Police arrested a man, named Nesar Ahmad, from Seyawshan village of Guzara district who shot his wife dead, seven days ago. According to the reports, the reason beyond the shooting was a long-running family feud.

Shindand district influential elders met with Herat Provincial Police Chief, Gen. Sayed Aqa Saqeb, in his office. During the meeting Gen Saqeb assessed their local problems and asked the elders for more support to ANSF in their community of origin. In the end, all elders pledged to play a decisive role in the peace negotiations and provide shoulder-to-shoulder support to ANSF.

UNAMA Regional Office in Herat donated three soft skin SUVs (4Runners) to Education Department for their official use only. Mr. Naser Farzad, Herat Doe OIC appreciated the assistance and cooperation of UNAMA as usual.

WR - ANA Commander, Gen. Taj Mohammad “Jahed” paid a visit to Badghis province during which he monitored the ANA performance, assessed their shortcomings and problems. Jahed told Badghis officials that he is going to deploy more ANA to the remote districts to secure peace before the 3rd tranche of the transition of security responsibility starts.

ANCOP deploys one unit to southern provinces. According to the ANCOP 3rd Brigade officials based on the needs of the community a well-equipped ANCOP unit will be deployed to southern provinces.

Based on the people’s everyday concern Herat Provincial Council organized an ad hoc meeting in order to assess the basic problems of the Education department across the districts. Reportedly people including civil society organizations were mainly concerned about the low quality teaching and technical services in Herat schools. Finally PC called on National and International Counterpart agencies to support Herat DoE in the related aspects.

ANA Commando high-ranking Official, Brigadier General Sayed. Abdul Karim evaluated the performance and effectiveness of the ANA Commando, 9th Battalion in Herat.

Two Private Security Companies, named F.O.C and Blue Hital were dissolved in Herat. Reportedly the company officials handed over 13 AK47s, 1 pistol, a few VHF Radios to ANP Regional.
