HERAT: Floods affect locals

HERAT - There have been recent torrential rains and flooding in some of the districts of Herat Province and the people in these districts have received financial compensation.

Officials of the Afghanistan National Disaster Management Authority (ANDMA) in the Western Region said that districts of Farsi, Kohsan, Ghuryan, Gulran and Koshk-e-Kohna had been badly affected by floods and some residents had lost their homes.

Abdel Hamid Mobarad, the head of ANDMA in the Western Region, said that recent rain had washed away tens of residential houses as well as hundreds of acres of agricultural lands, killing tens of livestock.

He also said a disaster assessment team had been deployed to the area to assess the situation and provide urgent needs to the affected population.

On the other hand, some people in the affected areas said they hadn’t received any support from the Government and they complained about the late government response.

It is worth to note that every year with the onset of winter and the beginning of seasonal rains, people face numerous problems and they normally complain about tardy government action.
