HELMAND - As the new Governor of Helmand province assumed office today, he promised to maintain security and root out corruption.

Speaking at a ceremony organized to welcome the new Governor, Major General Mohammad Naem Baloch, in the provincial capital Lashkar Gah, he also called on the local population to support his administration to take “the province towards development and prosperity together”.

Security and administrative officials of the province, parliamentarians representing Helmand, religious scholars and tribal elders attended the ceremony and promised their support to new Governor.

The erstwhile governor of the province, Mohammad Gulab Mangal, was given a heartfelt farewell, at a ceremony in Lashkar Gah on 24 September.
