Construction begins on one of biggest hospitals south of Kabul

7 August 2010 - The construction of a hospital with 100 beds and the resources to provide health services to 100,000 people a month began this week south of Kabul following a ceremony attended by representatives from Paktya province and the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), tribal elders and members of the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT).

“If there is peace in Paktya, we will be able to implement more and more development projects,” said the Governor of Paktya Juama Khan Hamdard at the inauguration ceremony in Gardez city.
The US $13.5 million project is implemented by the Government of Afghanistan with support from the International Organization for Migration (IOM) and the international community.

At more than 9,300 square meters, the medical complex is expected to take 18 months to complete.
