BAMYAN: Civil society members demand more protection for Hindu and Sikh minorities

BAMYAN - Members of Bamyan civil society and dozens of local community members gathered to show their support to the religious minorities of Afghan Hindus and Sikhs in an event called “a day of solidarity with Hindus and Sikhs” and called on the Government to protect their rights and help them resolve their problems.

“Recently the members of parliament eliminated the only seat allocated for this community (in the parliament). We call on the government to protect their rights and officially acknowledge their political rights,” said the Head of Civil Society and Human rights network and organizer of this event, Ismail Zaki.

It is estimated that Afghanistan currently has 4,000 Hindu and Sikh population.

According to the Afghan Hindu Council, about 90 per cent of the Hindu population fled the country because of insecurity and persecution by the government in the past.
