BALKH: Work on railroad to begin in six months

BALKH - Work on a railroad between the Kaldar district of Balkh province and Tajikistan would be launched in the next six months.

The Minister for Public Works, Najibullah Awzhan told a press conference in Mazar-i-Sharif that the 75-kilometer railway line would be constructed at a cost of 200 million US dollars from the development budget of the ministry.

He said that special police units would be deployed along the railroad to ensure security of the construction work and hoped that there would be no problems in implementing the project.

The railroad was highly important for Afghanistan and its neighbours, he observed and said that the project would help boost economic activity in the country.
