Report of the Secretary-General: The situation in Afghanistan and its implications for international peace and security

5 March 2012 - The report provides an update on the activities of the United Nations in Afghanistan, including significant humanitarian, development and human rights efforts, since my previous report issued on 13 December 2011 (A/66/604- S/2011/772). It also provides a summary of key political and security developments and regional and international events related to Afghanistan. Section IV of the report (Observations) addresses the comprehensive review of the mandated activities of the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) and United Nations support in Afghanistan requested by the Security Council in its resolution 1974 (2011). The annex contains an assessment of progress towards benchmarks and indicators since my report of 9 March 2011 (A/65/783-S/2011/120), in line with Security Council resolution 1868 (2009). Full report
