Afghanistan—Cholera outbreak under control, say MoPH, WHO

31 August 2010 - A cholera outbreak that struck at least 130 people in the Nowa district of the province of Ghazni in Afghanistan’s central highlights is now under control. The outbreak started on 9 August, when a health NGO named Sanayee Development Organization (SDO) reported 60 cases, which were soon revealed to be cholera cases through laboratory confirmation. PDF

UN condemns killing of poll candidate and campaign workers in Afghanistan

29 August 2010 - The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) today condemned the killing of a fourth parliamentary election candidate in the western province of Herat and the murder of five men supporting the electoral campaign of a female candidate in the same region.
