KABUL - The United Nations welcomes yesterday’s announcement by Afghanistan’s Independent Election Commission (IEC) of the final results from the 2014 Provincial Council elections.

Preliminary results of the Provincial Council elections held on 5 April were announced on 20 May. The final results were initially delayed by the high volume of complaints submitted to the Independent Electoral Complaints Commission (IECC) and further postponed by the electoral authorities focus on the country’s Presidential election.

The United Nations congratulates all those persons elected to office and acknowledges both the IEC and IECC for their commitment to deliver the final results of the Provincial Council elections.
