Girls’ right to education spotlighted in radio piece

KABUL - Afghan girls have the right to education and to contribute to the development of their country, say community leaders, government officials, civil society activists and women role models in a new radio piece released by UNAMA.

In the seven-minute programme (available for listening in English here). attendees at workshops around the country talk about issues facing Afghan girls. Against a background of cultural constraints, insecurity and poverty that often present challenges for girls to continue forward in their education, voices are raised to protect the rights of girls.

Afghanistan has made good progress in primary education in recent years. Around 8.3 million children are in school, nearly 40 per cent of whom are girls.
